AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the spring, 4-0, at 12th-ranked Texas on Saturday morning inside the Weller Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bobcats fell behind 1-0 when they began the day dropping a pair of doubles matches.
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez dropped a 6-0 decision against Petra Granic and Marta Perez-Mur in the No. 1 doubles match. The Longhorns clinched the team point when
Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez lost, 6-2, against Bianca Turati and Fernanda Labrana on the No. 3 court.
The Longhorns also won three singles matches to clinch the victory. First,
Alex Jones dropped a 6-2, 6-0 verdict against Dani Wagland on the No. 4 court. Then, Navajo-Melendez suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss against No. 32-ranked Petra Granic in the No. 2 match. The final point came when Chia fell 6-2, 6-3 against Marta Perez-Mur.
After Texas clinched the victory, the other three singles matches were halted. In one of those matches, Texas State's
Rishona Israel-Lewis was leading Labrana in the second set by a score of 3-0 after winning the first set 6-4. In other two halted matches, Perez trailed No. 87-ranked Anna Turati in the top-seeded match, and Murcia-Rodriguez was behind on the No. 6 court.
Texas State will look for its first victory of the spring next Friday, Jan. 26, when the Bobcats travel to Texas A&M.
