HOUSTON- The Texas State women's tennis team won four matches on the final day at the Rice Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday, Sept. 24.
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Julia Navajo-Melendez posted a pair of victories in straight sets during the consolation finals of their flights. In addition,
Andrea Fuchs and
Flavia Gutierrez-Balcazar won another pair of added matches when their original scheduled matches were not played.
Navajo-Melendez shut out Amber Policare of Kansas by a score of 6-0, 6-0, while Israel-Lewis also won her match against Klara Mrclela of UTA in straight sets by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Fuchs defeated UTSA's Sophia Boers in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 6-1 and Gutierrez-Balcazar defeated Nicole Dzenga of South Florida by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
In other matches,
Ana Perez dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Denisa Ibrahimovic of UTSA.
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez suffered a three-set loss (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) against Janvhi Clark of South Florida, and
Alex Jones suffered a 6-3, 6-0 setback against Alex Mjos of South Florida. In addition,
Joy Chia Ming Ming dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision against Kylee Kato of UTSA.
Following the Rice Invitational, the Bobcats will play in the ITA Regional Tournament on October 13-17 in Fort Worth.
