MOBILE, Ala. – The Texas State baseball team fell 9-4 to South Alabama Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference game contested at Stanky Field.

The Bobcats (22-22, 9-11 SBC) dropped their seventh game in a row, while the Jaguars (27-17, 14-6 SBC) clinched the series victory after winning Friday's opener 8-3.

USA sent 13 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the opening frame. The early deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the maroon and gold. TXST was able to counter with two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but the home team scored one additional tally in the second to go along with three more across the seventh and eighth frames to close out the scoring.

Sophomore
Jaylen Hubbard went 2-for-5 at the dish with two RBIs and one run scored. He was the only Bobcat with multiple hits, as the visitors were outhit 11-9 on the night.

True freshman
Nicholas Fraze (4-2) saw his five-game streak of quality starts halted, but he settled down after the first and went on to strike out a career-high seven batters. His final line saw him throw 115 pitches in 5.0 innings, while conceding six runs (three earned) on seven hits.

Dylan Hardy, Wells Davis and Paul Russo all tallied two hits. Davis had two RBIs and one run scored, while Brendan Donovan scored three times.

Thomas Huston (5-2) collected the victory on the mound after conceding just two runs on six hits across 6.2 innings. Matt Peacock tossed the final 2.1 frames to earn his sixth save. He gave up two runs on two hits.

The series finale is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. April 30.
