HOUSTON, Texas – Texas State softball swept a neutral-site doubleheader (6-1, 8-0 (5 inn.)) against Southern on Tuesday in Houston.

The two wins are the Bobcats eighth and ninth straight and improves the squad to 22-4 overall. Southern fell to 10-8 with the setbacks.

Kimberlin Naivar led the Bobcats at the plate with a 4-for-6 day with a RBI and four runs scored.
Bailee Carter and
Ariel Ortiz each went 3-for-5, while
Haleigh Davis, Corinna Liscano and
Christiana McDowell each hit safely twice.

Quincy Charleston,
Jodi Paige Williams and
Krista Jacobs combined for a 0.00 ERA, 16 strikeouts and no walks in their 12.0 innings in the circle.

Game One Recap

Texas State took game one by a 6-1 score line, recording runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings.
Â
Charleston ran her record to 4-0, going 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts and allowing only a single hit. Jacobs earned her first career save, working the final nine outs.

Naivar drew a leadoff walk in the home half of the first and later scored on a Southern throwing error to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 advantage. TXST loaded the bases with back-to-back walks by Webb and Liscano, but SU's Aubrion James came back to induce a pop up to shortstop off the bat of
Kennedy Cline to end the inning.

Texas State made it 4-0 with three runs on two hits and a Jaguar error in the second inning. McDowell doubled home Carter and Naivar, and later came around to score on
Jaelyn Young's sacrifice fly to right field.

In the fourth, Southern's Kiara Suttle lead off with a double and moved to third a batter later on a groundout. However, Charleston stranded the Jaguar baserunner with back-to-back strikeouts.

The Bobcats added a run in the fourth on Davis' RBI single. Southern scored in the top of the fifth on a failed pickoff attempt, but TXST answered with its final run in the bottom of the inning to provide the 6-1 final.

Aubrion James (1-3) suffered the loss in the circle, surrendering six runs (one earned) in her full six innings in the circle.

Game Two Recap

Williams struck out a career-high eight and the Bobcat offense collected 11 hits, including a walk-off single by game-one starting pitcher Charleston, as the Bobcats won 8-0 in five innings.

Williams (5-2) struck out eight of the 18 batters she faced in her 5.0 innings. She scattered three hits, did not allow a walk and escaped a runners-on-second-and-third-with-no-outs-situation in the fourth inning.

Naivar gave Texas State and early 1-0 lead in the first as she stole home after singling to third to lead off the inning.

The Bobcats made it 6-0 after with a five-run fourth inning.
Lexi Fryar,
Jaclyn Molenaar, Cruz, Naivar and McDowell each scored in the frame off five hits and a Southern error. Naivar, McDowell (2) and Ortiz each counted RBI.

TXST closed the game with the a seventh and eighth run in the fifth. Fryar started the inning with a walk and came around to score on
Taylor Webb's sacrifice fly to left field. With runners on the corners, Charleston pinch hit and delivered the walk-off single over the head of the first baseman to drive home
Alex Cruz, who had singled two batters prior.

Southern's Tiara Scott (3-4) was charged with the loss, allowing six Bobcat runs on eight hits in her 3.2 innings.

UP NEXT
Texas State returns to Sun Belt Conference play starting Saturday, March 25 at ULM. The Bobcats and Warhawks are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday at noon.
