PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Junior
Hugo Esposito carded a season-low 2-under par 69 in the final round of the St. Mary's Invitational that was played at the Poppy Hills Golf Club. He was the only Texas State men's golfer to post a round under par during the tournament.
The Bobcats finished in 18th place with a 54-hole total of 893, 41-over par. They improved 10 strokes from the second round with a 4-over 288 on Wednesday.
Esposito recorded three birdies on the day to just one bogey. He shot under par on the second, seventh and 18th holes. Overall, the Spaniard finished in a tie for 68th-place at 11-over 224.
Pacing the team on the course for the entire event was
Logan Lockwood. The sophomore finished in a tie for 59th at 8-over 221. In the final round, he shot 72 (+1) behind four birdies.
Calvin Ross finished in a tie for 68th with Esposito after also posting a 72 with four birdies in the third round.
The highlight of the day was from
Grant Lincecum on the par 3, 202-yard 11th hole when he recorded his first career hole-in-one. The freshman went on to shoot a 4-over 75 on the day that saw him card two birdies as well.
Winning the team title was 33-ranked USC at 28-under par 824 that included a 15-under 269 on Wednesday. Finished six strokes back of the Trojans were 13-ranked Stanford. Rounding out the top five was 21st-ranked Colorado State (-12) and 24th-ranked BYU (-9) and San Francisco (-5)
Taking home the individual championship was USC's Justin Suh, the 2-ranked player in the nation, at 13-under 200. He finished five shots ahead of 10th-ranked Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara, 25th-ranked Patrick Fishburn and teammate Kaito Onishi.
TXST returns to the links in the spring at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, Louisiana. The tournament will take place Feb. 26-27.
