SAN ANTONIO – The Texas State men's golf team and sophomore
Logan Lockwood took home the team and individual titles, respectively, at the James S. Litz Memorial that was played at The Republic Golf Club. The Bobcats shot 296 in Tuesday's final round to finish at 17-over par 869 and win by nine strokes while Lockwood carded a 3-over 74 to finish at even par 213.
Lockwood's individual title is the first for a Bobcat since
David Faraudo Godinez won the 2016 Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. It is the first championship in the Van, Texas native's career and 15th overall by a TXST golfer since 1993. He won the tournament over New Orleans' Homero de Toledo and Ulisess de Toledo, Jr.
A 1-over par 72 helped
Logan Davis claim a tie for fourth in the event at 4-over 217. He shared the top five spot with Incarnate Word's Cole Solis.
Calvin Ross posted his second straight top 10 finish with a four-way tie for sixth. The sophomore fired a 3-over 74 on the final day and carded a 5-over 218 for the tournament.
Hugo Esposito, playing as an individual, shot a 5-over 76 in the third round. He finished 17th overall at 10-over par 223.
In his first collegiate tournament,
Grant Lincecum finished in a tie for 18 with Murray State's Owen Grimes. The freshman posted a 76 to finish with a 224 ( 11) in the 54-hole event.
The Bobcats fended off a charge from the Privateers for the program's first team title since the 2014-15 season. Rounding out the top three was the host Cardinals at 31-over par 883.
Next up for TXST is its final tournament of the fall, the St. Mary's Invitational that will be held Nov. 5-8 in Pebble Beach, California.
