EL PASO, Texas – Recording the best finish in his collegiate career was sophomore
Calvin Ross. He finished in third at 7-under (206) after carding a two-over 73 in the third and final round of the Price's "Give 'Em 5" Invitational on Sunday at the Butterfield Golf Club. Texas State claimed fourth place at 11-over par 863 with a final round 299.
Ross ended the tournament with three birdies with two coming in the final four holes. Overall, he tied for second among all individuals with 14 birdies. The Canadian finished two strokes back of Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn and one behind UTEP's Charles Corner.
Logan Davis ended the event with a 4-over 75 with just a birdie during his round. He finished in tied for 10th with Marquette's Austin Kendziorski at even-par 213. It is the second straight tournament that Davis has finished in the top 15.
Firing a 3-over 74 on the day was
Logan Lockwood. The sophomore shot 1-under for the front nine but managed only one birdie on the back. He finished in a tie for 26th overall at 6-over 219.
Competing as an individual,
Xander Basson had the best day of all the Bobcat golfers. He shot a season low one-over 72. Overall, the South African finished in a tie for 24th with a 54-hole career low of 218 (+5), surpassing his previous best by seven shots.
Winning the team title was UTEP with a three-round total of 13-under 839. The Miners finished 10 strokes ahead 24th-ranked Marquette. Round out the top three was Oral Roberts at 6-over 858.
Texas State finished a shot ahead of UMKC, three up on Southern Utah and four strokes better than New Mexico State. It was the Bobcats highest finish since claiming fourth at the 2015 Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
Next up for Texas State is the James S. Litz Memorial hosted by Incarnate Word taking place Oct. 30-31 in San Antonio.
