PEARLAND, Texas – Junior
Logan Davis carded and even par 216 at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic taking place at the Golfcrest Country Club to finish in a tie for 14th and pace the Texas State men's golf team. The squad finished in ninth place at 19-over par 883 in the 54-hole event.
Davis started the tournament with a 2-under 70 in the first round on Monday behind four birdies. He followed with just one birdie in the second round on his way to a 4-over 76. The Humble, Texas native rebounded with another round of 70 to close out the tournament thanks to two birdies and 16 pars.
Claiming a tie for 28th out of 84 golfers was
Logan Lockwood at 4-over par 220. The sophomore was at even par after Monday's first two rounds behind a 73 (+1) in the morning and a 71 (-1) in the afternoon. Overall, he carded 11 birdies with nine coming in the first day of competition.
Posting the third best score for the Bobcats was
Alvaro Carol Estrems at 9-over 225. The Central Arkansas transfer's best round was in the third when he posted an even par 72 that saw him sink three birdies.
Calvin Ross finished the 54-hole tournament with eight birdies and
Hugo Esposito had four.
Texas State finished two strokes better than fellow Sun Belt Conference member Little Rock. Other teams that were behind the Bobcats in the team standings were Houston Baptist, Lama, Nebraska, Southern Miss and UTA.
Lipscomb, the 30th ranked team in the nation, took home both the team and individual titles. The Bison shot 15-under 849 and were eight shots ahead of Arkansas State. Dawson Armstrong, ranked 20th in the country, won with a 12-under 204 and was four strokes better than the runner-up.
Next up for Texas State is the Price's "Give 'Em 5" Invitational in El Paso, Texas taking place Oct. 20-22.
