Texas State Women’s Tennis Wins 4-3 Over McNeese State

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team won its first dual match of the spring and its second win overall edging McNeese State 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
The Bobcats opened the match winning the team doubles point before splitting the six singles matches to capture the victory.
 
Texas State won the doubles point with a pair of victories. First, Pippa Carr and Ana Perez combined to win a 6-3 decision against Phonexay Chitdara and Stella Carra on the No. 2 court. Then, Eva Dench and Alex Jones teamed up to beat Giovanna Fioretti and Saray Jurakova by a score of 8-2 in the top-seeded match.
 
McNeese State tied the score when Hannah Brett won her 19th consecutive match by a 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 match against Julia Navajo Melendez.
 
Texas State regained a 3-1 lead when Perez won  6-4, 6-1 over Chitdara on the No. 4 court and Chia Ming Ming captured a 6-4, 6-3 win against Carra in the No. 5 match.
 
The Cowgirls came back to tie the score at 3-3 with victories in the No. 1 and No. 6 matches before Pippa Carr captured the match-deciding team point after winning a tiebreaker in the first set and capturing the second set 6-3 over Sara Jurakova in the No. 2 match.
 
The victory improves Texas State's record to 2-0 this season after winning the first match against Prairie View A&M last November. The Bobcats play their second consecutive home match 7hen Texas State hosts I-35 rival UTSA on February 4 at 3 p.m.
