Women’s Tennis Hosts McNeese State on Sunday

SAN MARCOS, Texas - After opening the spring schedule at the TCU Invitational Tournament last weekend, the Texas State women's tennis team will play its first dual match in 2017 when the Bobcats host McNeese State in a non-conference match on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
 
The Bobcats are 1-0 in dual matches this year after a 6-1 victory against Prairie View A&M on October 29. Senior Pippa Carr leads Texas State with eight victories and enters Sunday's match with an 8-6 overall record that includes a win against Prairie View A&M.
 
Texas State's other senior player Eva Dench is in her second season as Texas State's No. 1 singles player. Dench enters Sunday's match having won a pair of matches last fall after posting eight victories in each of the last two seasons.
 
Sophomore Ana Perez has six wins this season after leading the Bobcats with 10 dual wins as a freshman.
 
McNeese State will play at Texas State on Sunday after playing at UTSA on Saturday. The Cowgirls have a 1-2 record in dual matches this season. McNeese State opened the season with a 4-1 loss at Tulane before splitting a pair of matches in Waco last weekend. The Cowgirls won a 6-1 decision against UT Rio Grande Valley on January 21 before falling 4-0 at Baylor on January 22.
 
This marks the 23rd time that Texas State will play a dual match against McNeese State, and enters Sunday's match with an 11-11 series record against the Cowgirls.
 
Following Sunday's match against McNeese State, Texas State will host I-35 rival UTSA on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. The Roadrunners host McNeese State after playing in Long Beach State's Winter Beach Invitational on Jan. 21.
