SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State continues the team's road trip at Texas Tuesday night. The Bobcats will be looking to avenge an extra-inning loss to the Longhorns in San Marcos earlier this season.

The Series
Texas State has a long series with UT, but the Longhorns have the better of it, standing at 43-9 against the Bobcats. Head Coach Ty Harrington is 5-29, and Texas State is looking for the team's first win in 24 tries. The Bobcats came close in the last meeting, pushing Texas to 11 innings, but fell just short.
 
Last Meeting
The Bobcats scored first in the last meeting, grabbing a 2-0 lead, but Texas scored a combined four runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Texas State answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth and one in the eighth to tie it up and force extra innings. The Longhorns were able to outlast the Bobcats with six runs in the 11th inning to win it. Both Tanner Hill and Ryan Newman homered in the game with Newman finishing 3-for-5. Nick Perez was 2-for-4 with a run while Cody Lovejoy went 2-for-3. Hill was 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs. The Bobcats struck out 10 in the game.

Texas has won the team's last two games and five of the last six. While the Longhorns have a losing record at 19-21, they have put together a winning record in conference play at 9-6 and are starting to heat up. They've started to find a way to generate offense, beating Kansas, 12-2, in the series finale and dropping Texas Tech, 17-1, in that series finale.
 
Patrick Mathis and Tres Barrera are hitting above .300 while Zane Gurwitz is at .299. Both Joe Baker and Tyler Rand are in the conversation with 24 hits and 23 respectively and .308 and .307 batting averages. As a team, the Longhorns are hitting .272 with 26 home runs, a .356 on-base percentage and 29 steals.
 
Texas continues to pitch well with a team ERA of 3.83 and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 301-150. The starter the Bobcats will face will be Connor Mayes with a 33-23 strikeout to walk ratio and a 4.17 ERA in 36.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .283 against him.

Texas State won the team's first game against a ranked opponent this season with a 2-1 victory over No. 20 UL Lafayette on Saturday behind the work of Cory Geisler on the mound. Tuesday night, Jeremy Hallonquist will get his first midweek start, making all his previous starts on the weekend.
 
So far this season, he has put together a 2.84 ERA with 27 strikeouts to 11 walks this season. In 50.2 innings of work this season, he has only given up 16 earned runs while opponents are hitting .250 against him. He is 10th in the Sun Belt Conference in ERA and tied for eighth in runs allowed and sixth in earned runs allowed.
 
Freshman Jonathan Ortega continues to lead the Bobcats in batting average (.324) and hits (56) while Tanner Hill sits at .321 with 51 hits and a conference-leading 13 home runs. He is tied for ninth in the nation in homers. Dylan Paul has worked his way into the top three on the squad in batting average at .313 while Granger Studdard is hitting .303. Jaylen Hubbard knocked the first home run of his career this past weekend to join the group of nine Bobcats with a homer this season.
 
The Bobcats are hitting .278 as a team with 201 RBIs, 226 runs and 393 hits. As a squad, the Bobcats are slugging .413 and have an on-base percentage of .357 with 27 steals
 
A Look Ahead
Texas State returns to the friendly confines of Bobcat Ballpark to host Sun Belt Conference opponent Troy this weekend. After that, the Bobcats will play the team's next midweek game at UTSA on Tuesday.
