AUSTIN, Texas – Texas State took full advantage of a Texas miscue in the top of the sixth inning to score the lone run in a 1-0 Bobcat softball win at Red & Charline McCombs Field Thursday night.
Â
Texas State hit a one-out single up the middle to begin the sixth. On a potential double-play bouncer on the infield, the ball was thrown away by the Longhorns defense while trying to cut down the lead runner at second. The ball went right as a pinch runner Christiana McDowell darted around all the way from first to score and grant the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. TXST went on to load the bases in the frame on a hit batter and a walk, but left the bases loaded as Tiarra Davis struck out back-to-back batters to limit the damage.
Â
Texas outhit the Bobcats 8-4 in the game, but the pitching combination of
Paige Williams and
Randi Rupp along with solid defensive play limited the impact of the Longhorns' base knocks. Williams started in the circle, scattering five of the hits. Rupp came on in the second and finished the contest, striking out eight.
Â
Ariel Ortiz paced the Bobcats at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Taylor Webb was officially 1-for-1 with a double, hit by pitch and walk. Bailee Carter was 1-for-2 hitting a single and drawing a walk.
Â
Texas State concludes its 2016 fall season Friday (Nov. 11) as hosts to UTSA at 7 p.m., before playing the annual alumni game Saturday (Nov. 12) at Noon.
