SAN MARCOS, Texas –  Texas State softball fell by a 5-0 final to the visiting USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league Thursday evening at Bobcat Softball Stadium in front of a crowd of 843.
Â
Texas State's
Randi Rupp, who was recently invited to Team USA Selection Camp in January, worked a complete game in the circle. She was through six innings with only a single earned run, but gave up a three-run home run in the seventh for the 5-0 final. The rising junior finished with six strikeouts, while giving up eight hits.
Â
In the third, Rupp surrendered a single and a walk, followed by a single to Kelly Kretschman to load the bases with no one out. Rupp responded to strike out Shelby Pendley, then got a pair of infield groundouts to escape the jam unscathed. Â
Â
The Pride got a run on the board in the fourth as a Bobcat error allowed Lauren Chamberlin, who had reached on a leadoff double, to score from third. The Pride made it 2-0 in the sixth as Chamberlin again came around to score, this time on a Brianna Hamilton RBI.
Â
GiOnna DiSalvatore produced the 5-0 score line with the three-run shot in the seventh, scoring Kretschman and Cheyenne Cordes.
Â
Christiana McDowell had the Bobcats' lone hit – a single up the middle in the first inning – as Jolene Henderson threw seven scoreless frames with seven strikeouts.
Â
Texas State continues its 2016 fall season Thurs., Nov 10 at the University of Texas. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. in Austin. The Bobcats then host UTSA on Fri., Nov. 11 before closing out the fall season with the annual Alumni Game on Sat., Nov. 12.
