SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior shortstop Ariel Ortiz hit for the cycle, drove in five and scored a pair of runs to lead Texas State to an 9-0 win over Temple College in a nine-inning contest Thursday evening at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
 
Ortiz hit a two-run home run to left in her first at bat to start the Bobcats' scoring. She notched an RBI double to right center in her second at bat, then singled up the middle third time at the plate. Ortiz completed the cycle in the ninth when she roped a triple off the wall for her fourth hit in as many at bats.
 
Christiana McDowell also fared well at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored. In addition, the freshman made the defensive play of the game with a diving catch in right center to end the second inning. Jaelyn Young also had multiple hits as she collected a pair of singles.
 
Senior Paige Williams started in the circle for the Bobcats and worked five complete innings, striking out three and limiting Temple College to a pair of hits to earn the win. Quincy Charleston went 3.0 innings, scattering three hits before giving way to Randi Rupp in the ninth. Rupp made quick work of the visitors, striking out a pair and inducing a routine groundball.


 
 
BOBCATS HOST USSSA PRIDE THURS., OCT 27
The Texas State University softball program will welcome the USSSA Florida Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch League to Bobcat Softball Stadium on Oct. 27. The contest between the Bobcats and Pride will be free and open to fans. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and can also be viewed live on txstatebobcats.com/watch. An autograph session will be held for those in attendance following the game.
