SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team will look to win its third straight home match and even its overall record to 4-4 when the Bobcats play host to Missouri State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
Texas State enters the match with a 3-4 record after dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 58 Rice in Houston on Feb. 28. Prior to that match, the Bobcats won 4-3 decision against UT Pan American on Feb. 20 and Northwestern State on Feb. 21 in San Marcos.
The Bobcats are 3-1 in home matches this season after splitting their first two home matches a week earlier. Texas State defeated Incarnate Word, 5-2, on Feb. 14 before suffering a 6-0 loss against South Alabama on Feb. 15.
Seniors
Monica Pieratt and
Shannon Beckett have combined to post a 5-2 record in doubles play to lead the team this season, while sophomore
Eva Dench and junior
Katy Collins have combined for a 3-1 mark in doubles.
Collins has Texas State's best record in singles play with a 4-1 record as Texas State's No. 6 player.
Eva Dench also has 3-4 mark on the No. 4 court, while Beckett owns a 3-4 record in No. 5 singles.
Ana Laura Gutierrez and
Pippa Carr each have two wins this season, while Pieratt owns one victory in No. 1 singles matches.
Missouri State enters the match with a 3-7 record this season after suffering a 5-2 loss against IPFW in Springfield. The Bears are led by Anelisse Torrico Moreno, who has won eight straight matches and owns an 8-2 record. A native of Bolivia, Torrico Moreno has won her last four matches on the No. 4 courts after beginning the season with a 4-2 mark in No. 5 matches.
In addition, Mackenzie Rozell has won four of her last five No. 3 matches after opening the season with a 1-4 mark in No. 2 singles.
Following Wednesday's match, Missouri State will travel to San Antonio to play UTSA on Thursday and UT Pan American on Friday. Texas State will play Louisiana Tech on Mar. 18 and Arkansas State on Mar. 20 in Monroe, La.
