NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team dropped a tough 5-2 decision at Stephen F. Austin Sunday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
 
The Bobcats took an early 1-0 lead in the match when they captured the team doubles point with a pair of victories in the three doubles matches. Monica Pieratt and Shannon Beckett posted their second straight victory of the season as a doubles team when they beat Vivienne Kulicke and Valeria Terentyeva in the No. 3 match by a score of 7-5.
 
Katy Collins and Eva Dench also defeated Denise Maxl and Macarena Acosta in the No. 2 match by a score of 6-3 victory to clinch the team point for Texas State.
 
In the No. 1 doubles match, Pippa Carr and Ana Laura Gutierrez dropped a 6-4 decision against Dhanielly Quevedo and Malena Gordo.
 
Texas State's other team point came with a victory in the No. 6 singles match when Collins won in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Acosta. The win improves her record in singles matches to 2-0 this season.
 
The Bobcats dropped the other five singles matches, but three of those five battles were decided in three sets. Gutierrez suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 setback against Maxl in the No. 2 match. Carr dropped her No. 3 match by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 score against Kulicke. Beckett also suffered a three-set loss by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 against Quevedo in the No. 5 match.
 
In the other two matches, Pieratt suffered a 7-5, 7-5 loss against Gordo in the No. 1 match and Terentyeva defeated Dench by a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 match.
 
Texas State, which fell to 0-2 this season, will look to get back on the winning track when the Bobcats return home to host Incarnate Word next Saturday and South Alabama on Sunday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match against Incarnate Word begins at 10 a.m. and the South Alabama match starts at 11 a.m.
