SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a match that was not decided until the final singles match was completed, the Texas State women's tennis team won its second dual match of the season when the Bobcats defeated UT Pan American, 4-3, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Friday morning.
 
Texas State opened the day winning a pair of doubles matches as 
Katy Collins and 
Eva Dench defeated Katia Stavroulaki and Lison Le Biavant by a score of 6-4 to open the match. Then, 
Shannon Beckett and 
Monica Pieratt won their fourth match of the season by defeating Reegan Greenwood and Mariana Ranzahuer by the same score to give the Bobcats the team point.
 
The Bobcats increased their lead to 2-0 when Dench opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Christel Amsallem on the No. 4 court.
 
UTPA won three straight matches to take a short-lived lead in the match as the Broncs won the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 matches. First, Stavroulaki defeated 
Ana Laura Gutierrez by a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 court. Then, Pieratt dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Dominique Esparza on the No. 1 court and Beckett fell to Greenwood by the same score on the No. 5 court.
 
Texas State won the final two matches of the day to pull out the win as 
Pippa Carr tied the team score at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Ranzahuer on the No. 3 court. Collins clinched the win with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Natacha Minc in the No. 6 match. 
 
The victory over UT Pan American improves Texas State's record to 2-3 overall this season, while the Broncs fell to 3-5. Texas State will look to win its second straight match and even its overall season record when the Bobcats host Northwestern State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Saturday at 11 a.m.
