SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore guard Taeler Deer has been named the College Sports Madness Mid-Major National Player of the Week after her 32-point, three steal performance in the victory over North Texas Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats pulled away with a 64-62 victory over North Texas, a team who most recently defeated No. 17 Oklahoma on the road, to improve to 2-1 on the year. Deer led the 'Cats by scoring a career-high 32 points on 12 made shots including a 4-for-7 effort from three-point range.

With four made three's, Deer topped her previous total of two made in a game. She finished the game going 4-for-5 from the charity stripe and played in a season-high 30 minutes for Texas State. In the first quarter alone, Deer scored 10 of the Bobcats 21 points. She also notched her first block of the 2015-16 season against the Mean Green.

Deer's 12 made baskets is a conference-high so far this season and with her 32 points, she now ranks fourth in scoring in the Sun Belt Conference.

This is the first collegiate honor for Deer. The Sun Belt Conference will release its Student-Athlete of the Week honor Tuesday afternoon.
