SAN MARCOS, Texas – With a Friday evening off of action, the Texas State soccer team will travel to Boone, N.C. to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers Sunday afternoon. Kick-off against the Mountaineers is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT. Texas State enters the contest riding on a seven-match winning streak, the longest dating back to the 2011 season.
Last week, with three goals including the game-winner against Arkansas State, senior
Lynsey Curry was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The native of Cypress, Texas scored two goals against the Red Wolves to up her season total to five, just two shy of her career-highs set in 2013 and 2014.
Junior forward
Lauren Prater leads the Bobcats with eight goals this season. She also scored against Arkansas State last weekend.
The Bobcats seven-match winning streak is the longest since the 2011 season and the 8-2 start is the best start in school history. Texas State enters Sunday's match with a 2-0-0 Sun Belt Conference record.
Last season, the Bobcats defeated the Mountaineers at the Bobcat Soccer Complex in overtime. It was the first meeting between the two squads.
A Look At The CompetitionAppalachian State enters the weekend with a 5-3-3 overall record and 1-0-1 mark in conference play after tying Little Rock last Sunday. The Mountaineers and the Bobcats are travel partners, therefore the reason why neither team is playing Friday evening.
Merlin Beckwith leads the squad with seven points (two goals and three assists), while Jane Cline leads the team with three goals scored. Megan Roberson has been in goal for the majority of the minutes for Appalachian State with just over 817. She has recorded 32 total saves this season and owns a 1.21 goals against average.
The Mountaineers are under the direction of Sarah Strickland who is currently in her sixth season at the helm of the Appalachian State women's soccer program.
