Soccer Extends Winning Streak To Four

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas State soccer team recorded its fourth-straight victory and extended its unbeaten streak to five on Friday evening as it defeated the Lamar Cardinals by a score of 3-0 at the Lamar Soccer Complex. The Bobcats are now 4-0-1 on the year, continuing the best start in school history.
 
In the 14th minute of the contest, Kassi Hormuth gave the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season. Hormuth weaved through defenders on the right side of the box before scoring in the back left corner.
 
The first Lamar shot that was allowed by the Bobcat defense was in the 28th minute of the contest.
 
Just moments before the half, the Bobcats extended their lead as Landry Lowe connected on a pass from Rachel Grout to score her first of the season.
 
The Bobcats finished the first half with 13 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
 
In the 54th minute, Grout presented Tori Hale with a one-v-one situation. Hale's shot, however, was aimed right at the goalkeeper, who made her ninth save of the contest.
 
The Bobcats weren't finish on the offensive side of the ball as Lauren Prater tacked on her first goal of the season in the 81st minute. Prater's shot in front of the goal trickled in the right side after a pass from Ali Jones.
 
Goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart recorded her fourth shutout of the season after recording five saves for Texas State. The Bobcats finished the contest with 20 total shots and 17 on goal. Hormuth and Lynsey Curry led the Bobcats with four shots. All of Hormuth's shots were on goal.
 
With the victory, the Bobcats improved to 5-0-1 against Lamar while earning their fifth shutout against the Cardinals.
 
The Bobcats will now return to the Bobcat Soccer Complex for a four-game home stretch, starting with a match against TCU on Friday, September 12. Next weekend is also Alumni Weekend for the Bobcats, starting with Friday night's match. As always, admission is free at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
