"Maddie plays a very important role in our attack," mentioned Conner. "I just really like the way she is playing. She is playing at a fast pace with intensity and even more so she being a little more deceptive at her high level of play."

Nichols played in all 19 games as a freshman for Texas State and led all freshman with 1,436 total minutes at center mid. She also recorded two goals, one of which was the game-winning goal against Troy in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

A Look At The Competition
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Friday's contest marks the third straight road game to open the 2014 season for the Islanders. Against Houston in the season opener, the Islanders tied Houston, 0-0. While in Houston, the Islanders defeated Texas Southern, a school on Texas State's schedule, by a score of 3-0.

Bri Lugo, Nanna Poulsen, and Aulona Velaj have all scored for the Islanders this season.

Northwestern State
Northwestern State has started the season with a 1-1 record by defeating Louisiana College, 9-1, and falling to UL Monroe, 3-0. Esdenia Gonazalez has scored a team-high two goals for the Lady Demons.

Sunday's contest marks the 25th meeting between the Lady Demons and the Bobcats. The last time that the Bobcats played against the Lady Demons was back in 2013 when Texas won by a score of 3-1 in Natchitoches, La. Texas State owns a 13-8-3 advantage in 24 meetings against Northwestern State.

Coach Conner Quotes
What are your thoughts leading into the weekend?
"It's the first time we are playing at home officially this season and we have been at two places where the road fans were really rowdy and caused a lot of ruckus, truly giving the home team an advantage. We hope that our fans will come out and do the same for us. These are two very important games for us to get out to a good start. They'll be tough games and to have the fans there to cheer us on will really help."
