Bobcats Drop to UALR, 3-0

SAN MARCOS – Texas State suffered a 3-0 loss to Sun Belt Conference opponent UALR in the opening game of the series Friday night. The loss drops the Bobcats to 27-22 on the season and 15-10 in conference action.
 
The Trojans scored once in the second, third and seventh innings to prevail over the Bobcats. They knocked nine hits to Texas State's four. Cory Geisler and Colby Targun each knocked a hit while Granger Studdard hit two to lead the Bobcats on the night.
 
Ben Crumpton led UALR with three hits followed by Sam Vogel's two. Four other Trojans struck a hit in the game.
 
Austen Williams went 6.1 innings and gave up seven hits and three runs. He struck out four and walked three while Justin Dellinger finished the game with four strikeouts in just 2.2 innings.
 
Trojan outfielder Bryson Thionet started UALR off with a second inning leadoff walk. After he stole second, he went to third on a groundout and scored on another one. In the third inning, Vogel knocked a leadoff triple and scored on the next batter's groundout. Finally, in the seventh, outfielder Petr Sila scored on a Crumpton single up the middle after hitting a triple of his own to get on base.
 
The Bobcats will look to bounce back with a 3 p.m. game Saturday. Taylor Black will take the mound for Texas State.
