The Series
Texas State and UT Arlington has a long-standing series, one in which the Bobcats hold a 57-40 advantage. Head Coach Ty Harrington is 36-15 against the Mavericks and has led Texas State to four consecutive wins in the series, including three this season.

Granger Studdard knocked a walk-off home run in the 11th inning of the Saturday game to win, 7-5. That was after the Bobcats beat UTA, 10-5, on Friday and before they won the Sunday game by a score of 3-1.

On the Mavericks
The Mavericks are a different team than the Bobcats played earlier in the season. UT Arlington has won four games in a row, and, after being swept by the Bobcats, fought back to tie Texas State in the Sun Belt Conference standings.

UT Arlington's best weekend starter has been Daniel Milliman, who owns the third best ERA on the team and is a perfect 4-0 in decisions. He has only started eight games though, just over half of what other starters Zach Thompson and Brad Vachon have this season. Both Thompson and Vachon are well over 5.00 ERAs.

The Mavericks counter that pitching with impressive bats. UT Arlington has knocked 41 home runs this season with 10 triples, 112 doubles and 560 hits. As a squad, they are hitting .299 with a .435 slugging percentage and a .385 on-base percentage. Six Mavericks are hitting .300 or higher with the most dangerous maybe being Matt Shortall. Shortall leads the team in RBI with 49 and has knocked 81 hits, 22 doubles, three triples and nine home runs, all team highs.

On the Bobcats
After being swept by UALR, Texas State looked to have bounced back with a very competitive four and 1/3 innings against Texas on Tuesday before the midweek game was called due to inclement weather. The Bobcats had played Texas to a 1-1 tie and held an advantage in hits.

Before UALR, the Bobcats had swept Troy and were cruising. Garrett Mattlage leads the team in hits with 60, batting .308 on the season. Freshman Granger Studdard is second on the team in hits with 49 and leads the team in homers with six. Cory Geisler has also been consistent at the plate, batting .307 for the season with 39 hits.

UT Arlington will have to face what is quite possibly the best pitching staff in the Sun Belt Conference in Austen Williams, Taylor Black and Lucas Humpal. All three pitchers are ranked in the SBC top 10 in earned run average, innings pitched and strikeouts.

A Look Ahead
After this series, the Bobcats, like the other seven top Sun Belt teams, will travel to Mobile, Ala., for the Sun Belt Championship Tournament and the right to represent the SBC in the NCAA Tournament.
