Houston, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team suffered its fourth straight loss when the Bobcats dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 27-ranked Houston on Wednesday afternoon at the John Hoff Courts.
The Bobcats lost the doubles point to enter singles play down 1-0. Texas State's top doubles team of
Jessica Kahts and
Ana Laura Gutierrez suffered an 8-2 loss against Despoina Vogasari and Elena Kordolaimi. Houston clinched the doubles point when
Monica Pieratt and
Shannon Beckett dropped an 8-1 decision against Maria Cardenas and Tina Rupert on the No. 2 court.
Eva Dench and
Bérénice Van den Bergh were tied 5-5 against Rocio Martin and Charlotte Phillips before the match was suspended on Court 3 after the doubles point was decided.
In singles action, Beckett suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss in her No. 5-match against Cardenas. Gutierrez also suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback against Rupert on Court No. 3 and
Katy Collins fell 6-2, 6-2 against Martin in the No. 6 match. Dench put up a challenge in the first set of her No. 4 match before she fell 7-5, 6-2 against Fraser.
Pieratt and Kahts also fought valiantly in the first sets of their matches. In the No. 2 match, Pieratt fell 6-4, 6-2 against Kordolaimi, while Kahts dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision against the No. 93-ranked Vogasari.
Texas State returns to action this Saturday when the Bobcats close out the regular season against Prairie View A&M at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match begins with three doubles matches at noon after Texas State honors its two seniors, Kahts and Van den Bergh, who are playing in their final home match of their career. Texas State travels to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in New Orleans on April 18-20.
