Box Score Game One: No. 11 South Alabama 8, Texas State 0 | Recap | Box ScoreGame Two: Texas State 4, No. 11 South Alabama 1 | Recap | Box ScoreGame Three: Texas State 4, No. 11 South Alabama 3 SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a thrilling series finale, the Texas State softball team once again downed the No. 11 South Alabama Jaguars by a score of 4-3, improving to 21-20 overall and 4-5 in conference action. The Bobcats rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning by putting up three runs to take the final lead of the day.
The Bobcats got on the board first, tacking on a run in the bottom of the first inning. Texas State used a pair of infield hits by
Kelli Baker and
Courtney Harris to take the early lead on the visiting Jaguars.
Despite giving up six walks in the drizzly conditions, pitcher
Rayn House did not allow a hit through the first three innings of work for the Bobcats.
It was in the top of the fourth inning that not only did the No. 11-ranked team earn their first hit, but also scored its first run after Taylor Rodgers hit a two-run blast to left field to regain the lead over Texas State.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bobcats countered South Alabama's pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning with three to take over the lead and momentum from the Jags.
Coralee Ramirez got the bats going in the fifth with a bouncing single up the middle. Ramirez then got thrown out on a fielder's choice play, but
Jordan Masek stole second to give the Bobcats a runner in scoring position with one out.
With Masek on second with one out, Baker stepped up to the plate and hit her second single of the day, scoring Masek to bring in the game-tying run. The Bobcats added two more after
Kortney Koroll hit a single up the middle, scoring Baker who was standing on third and Harris who made her way to second after a walk and a stolen base.
South Alabama tried to answer in the top of the sixth, hitting a pair of singles to put runners on first and third with two outs. Ramirez halted the Jags shot of adding more to the score board by making a catch in right field for the third out of the inning.
The Jaguars made things interesting in the top of the seventh, putting two base runners on with two outs. With a full count, South Alabama's Alex Breeden hit a ball just past House and made her way to first on an error by
Kendall Wiley. As the play ensued, South Alabama scored its third run, but in an attempt to get a base runner to third, Wiley threw the ball to Harris at third where she made the tag for the third and final out of the ball game.
Texas State out hit the Jaguars six to five and the Bobcats handed Campbell her third loss of the season.
House picked up her 18
th victory on Sunday afternoon, improving to 18-13 overall. Four Bobcats recorded stolen bases in five total attempts.
Baker finished the game going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Koroll led the Bobcats with two RBI.
Texas State returns to action on Wednesday night when the Bobcats will travel down to their I-35 rival in UTSA. First pitch against the C-USA opponent is scheduled for 6 p.m. in San Antonio. Live stats will be available at txstatebobcats.com.
