SAN MARCOS, Texas – After dropping game one to No. 11 South Alabama by a score of 8-0, the Texas State softball team handed the first-place team in the conference its first Sun Belt Conference loss of the season by defeating the visiting Jaguars, 4-1. Texas State improved to 20-20 on the year and 3-5 in SBC action after the split this afternoon.

Texas State jumped on the board quickly in game two, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kelli Baker got the bats started, hitting a bunt single to the third baseman that resulted in Baker ending at second base from an errant throw by the Jaguars. Just two batters later, junior Courtney Harris hit a double off of the left field fence, scoring Baker for the first run of the game.

With Harris standing on second and one out, Kortney Koroll smashed a two-run shot over the centerfield fence to put the Bobcats up 3-0 on the visiting Jaguars. Koroll now leads the team with six home runs so far this season.

The Bobcats held the No. 11 ranked team scoreless through the first three innings of action before the Jaguars put a mark up on the board in the top of the fourth. A triple off of the left centerfield fence scored the first run of the game for South Alabama, scoring its first batter of the inning who got on by a walk. The next two South Alabama batters made their way to the base paths to give the Jaguars the bases loaded with no outs.

House returned to the mound in relief of Ashley Wright in the top half of the fourth inning and managed to get the Bobcats out of the bases loaded jam. Getting out of the jam proved to be a crucial stop to the momentum South Alabama attempted to build.

Timishia North returned the favor to the Jaguars in the bottom of the fifth, hitting her first home run of the season to give Texas State a 4-1 lead.

Wright started in game two for the Bobcats and put in three innings of work with just one run and three hits allowed. House picked up the victory in game two, putting in four innings of scoreless softball while striking out two and allowing just one more South Alabama hit. House improved to 17-13 on the year after earning the decision in both contests.

In game one, the Bobcats were held scoreless with five hits. In the top of the third, a costly error by the Bobcats resulted in five runs scored by the Jaguars. House was credited with the loss in the first game.

Coralee Ramirez led Texas State in the first game, going 2-for-3, snapping a four-game hitless skid. Baker, North, and Harris all recorded hits for the Bobcats.

Prior the start of today's games, South Alabama had allowed a total of just three home runs all season. Texas State now owns two out of the five home runs in the 35 games the Jaguars have played.
