Bobcats Fall In Heartbreaker To Texas

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team suffered a heartbreaker on Wednesday evening, falling in six innings to Texas by a score of 15-6. The Bobcats held a 6-4 lead against the visiting Longhorns through five innings before Texas rattled off 11 runs in the top of the sixth to go on and defeat the Bobcats.

Prior to the start of the contest, the Bobcats recognized and honored long-time Texas State head athletic trainer David Gish in the annual Strikeout Cancer game. Gish was diagnosed earlier in the fall with cancer and on Wednesday was honored by throwing out the first pitch for Texas State.

After allowing three runs in the top of the second inning by the Longhorns, Texas State's Katie Doerre ignited a five-run Bobcat inning in the bottom of the third by hitting her team-high seventh home run. The Bobcats proceeded to capitalize on a pair of walks by the Texas pitching staff along with an error by the Longhorn second baseman before recording back-to-back-to-back singles by Courtney Harris, Kortney Koroll, and Coralee Ramirez to regain the lead.

Texas answered in the fourth with a run to make it a one-run game, but the Bobcats' Delia Saucedo hit her first home run of the season to put Texas State back up, 6-4, over Texas.

It was after a scoreless fifth that the Longhorns posted 11 runs to take a nine-run lead over the Bobcats, ultimately cutting the game short once Texas retired three-straight Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth.

Rayn House was issued the loss in the game while Texas' Gabby Smith came in relief to earn the victory. The Bobcats fall to 22-27 overall on the year.

Koroll led the Bobcats at the plate, finishing 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Ramirez extended her hitting streak to six games after recording a hit in the third.

The Bobcats will finish out the season with a pair of conference series, first traveling to Troy this upcoming weekend. The Bobcats will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday before playing a single game on Sunday against the Trojans.
