Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Before it was all said and done, there were a combined 26 runs and 25 hits as the Texas State softball team fell by a score of 19-7 to the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats recorded 10 hits in the loss, led by junior
Courtney Harris with a pair of hits including a two-run home run in the third inning.
The Bobcats fall to 19-19 overall with two more remaining non-conference games on the regular season schedule.
Texas used five straight hits to score four runs to start off the contest. The Longhorns continued to add more in the second, capitalizing on three Bobcat errors with two outs to extend its lead to 10-0.
In the top of the third inning, Texas State got the ball rolling with
Jordan Masek, the first batter of the inning. Masek hit a pop-up to centerfield and found her way on base when the Brejae Washington lost sight of the ball during the catch.
Kelli Baker then promptly singled Masek home for the first Texas State run of the ball game.
Courtney Harris kept the bats going in the top half of the third, hitting a line drive home run over the left field fence to make it a 10-3 game. With back-to-back-to-back singles by
Kortney Koroll,
Katie Doerre, and
Kendall Wiley, the Bobcats mustered up two more runs to cut the Longhorn lead to five.
Texas answered with a pair of home runs in the bottom of the third to extend its lead back to seven.
The Bobcats quickly returned the favor in the top half of the fourth as the Bobcats used three hits and a walk to score two more.
Delia Saucedo started the rally as a pinch hitter for
Timishia North, hitting a single down the right field line.
After allowing seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bobcats were held scoreless in the fifth en route to the Longhorn victory.
Harris finished 2-for-2 with a walk while Koroll, Doerre, and Wiley each went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Rayn House earned the loss after putting in 1.2 innings of work, falling to 16-12 on the year.
Texas State returns home this weekend for a three-game series against No. 11 South Alabama.
