Box ScoreGame Three: Texas State 11, Western Kentucky 2 SAN MARCOS, Texas – Three home runs to score the first three Bobcat runs of the game propelled Texas State to an 11-2 victory against the visiting Western Kentucky Lady Toppers on Saturday afternoon. Western Kentucky ultimately took the series after picking up the sweep on Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Courtney Harris capped the afternoon off with a walk-off, two-run home run for the fourth Bobcat home run of the day. Texas State improved to 22-26 overall and 5-10 in conference play with the victory.
Kelli Baker and
Timishia North got the Bobcats off on the right foot to start the contest, hitting back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning to give Texas State an early 2-0 lead. Three straight strike outs by the Western Kentucky's Emily Rousseau got the Lady Toppers out of the inning.
Just one inning later, sophomore
Kendall Wiley continued the home run ways, leading the inning off with a solo shot to left centerfield. Texas State added one more in that half of the inning as Western Kentucky walked three Bobcats while giving up a bunt single by Baker.
Western Kentucky got two runs back in the top of the third, capitalizing on a pair of doubles and a triple by the bottom half of the Lady Topper line-up.
The Bobcats tallied another run in the bottom of the third before extending their lead to seven after scoring four in the bottom of the fourth. In the fourth, Texas State recorded three singles after North and Harris led the inning off with a walk and a hit by pitch.
With North standing on first with one out in the fifth, Harris hit her sixth home run of the season to run-rule the Lady Toppers after five innings.
This is the first time this season that the Bobcats have hit four home runs in a game.
Baker finished the game with three of the Bobcats' 11 hits while Wiley and
Delia Saucedo each had two. Seven different Bobcats recorded hits and all seven of those players each recorded an RBI.
Western Kentucky left just one runner on base all afternoon while recording three hits.
Rayn House earned the victory after putting in five innings of work while striking out seven. She improves to 19-16 overall while Rousseau fell to 16-11 after pitching to just four Bobcat batters.
The Bobcats will remain at home during the midweek as they are prepping to take on Texas on Wednesday evening.
