San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team captured the doubles point and then won all six singles matches in straight sets to cruise to a 7-0 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
The match marked the final home match for a pair of seniors, Jessica Kahts and Bérénice Van den Bergh. Both players posted victories in their singles and doubles matches.
 
Kahts, who has served as Texas State's top singles player and a member of its No. 1 doubles team throughout her career, won her singles match against Taylor LeFridge  by a score of 6-4, 6-3 on the No. 1 court. She also teamed with Ana Laura Gutierrez to beat Brittany Harrell and LeFridge by a score of 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles match.
 
Van den Bergh defeated Payton Gore by a score of 7-5, 6-1 in her No. 6 singles match after teaming with Eva Dench to beat Gore and Alexandria Young by a score of 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles match.
 
Shannon Beckett had Texas State's most impressive showing on Saturday after she won both of her matches with shut outs. First, she teamed with Monica Pieratt to win an 8-0 decision against Sydney Thomas and Maria Lackey in the No. 2 doubles match. Then, she won her No. 5 singles match against Lackey by a score of 6-0, 6-0.
 
Pieratt won her No. 2 singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-1 against Harrell, while Gutierrez posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Donielle Richard on the No. 3 court.
 
Dench defeated Thomas in the No. 4 match in straight sets after claiming the tiebreaker by a score of 7-4 to win the first set, 7-6, and winning the second set by a score of 6-3.
 
The victory improves Texas State's record to 9-10 this spring heading into next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament on April 17-20 at the New Orleans City Park Tennis Center.
