Houston, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at No. 26 Rice on the Jake Hess Tennis Courts Saturday. The Bobcats are now 6-4 heading into a three-game road trip in Alabama.
The Owls took an early 1-0 lead in the match after sweeping the doubles competition. The tandem of
Monica Pieratt and
Shannon Beckett had the closest score on court two as they fell 8-2 against Dominique Harmath and Alison Ho. In the No. 1 match,
Jessica Kahts and
Ana Laura Gutierrez suffered an 8-1 setback against Natalie Beazant and Liat Zimmermann.
After doubles competition, the Bobcats lost all six of the singles matches in straight sets.
The marks the second time that Texas State has been shut out this season and both times have been against ranked teams. The Bobcats look to get back into the winning column on Monday when they travel to UAB to begin a three-match road trip in Alabama. Texas State will also play at Alabama State on Mar. 12 and at South Alabama on Mar. 13.
