Women's Tennis Travels To No. 26-Ranked Rice

San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team will be looking to win their seventh match in the last eight outings when the Bobcats travel to Houston on Saturday and play No. 26-ranked Rice in a non-conference match on the Jake Hess Tennis Courts at 11:00 a.m.
 
Texas State enters the match with a 6-3 overall record this season after splitting a pair of matches in Louisiana last weekend. The Bobcats improved to 2-0 against Sun Belt Conference teams this year after posting a 4-3 victory at UL Monroe on Saturday. Texas State suffered a 4-2 loss at Northwestern State to snap its six-match winning streak.
 
Meanwhile, Rice enters Saturday's match looking to rebound from a 4-1 loss against No. 17-ranked Tulsa last Saturday in Houston. The Owls are 6-5 this season with all five losses coming against Top 20 teams. Rice has three-wins against nationally-ranked teams as the Owls beat No. 24-ranked Florida State, No. 29 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Auburn this spring.
 
Looking At Texas State
Jessica Kahts is Texas State's No. 1 player in singles and enters her match on Saturday with a 7-2 record this spring after posting a straight set victory at Northwestern State last weekend. Kahts also has teamed with Ana Laura Gutierrez as Texas State's No. 1 doubles tandem and they enter Saturday with a 4-3 record this spring.
 
Gutierrez has six victories in singles play this season after winning her third of No. 3 matches last weekend at UL Monroe. Gutierrez is 4-1 in No. 3 matches this season.
 
Eva Dench and Katy Collins are 6-0 in doubles play while Monica Pieratt and Shannon Beckett are 5-2 as Texas State's No. 2 doubles team. They enter Saturday's match having won four straight matches after posting a victory at UL Monroe last Saturday. 
 
Beckett improved to 5-4 in singles play this spring after winning three of her No. 4. She posted a 2-3 mark in No. 3 matches before last weekend with two of her losses coming in three sets and another against No. 20-ranked Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech.
 
Scouting Rice
No. 72 nationally-ranked Natalie Beazant leads Rice and enters Saturday's match with a 5-4 record in No. 1 matches. Katherine Ip also is ranked No. 74 with a 5-3 overall record this spring, including a 2-2 mark in No. 3 matches. Dominique Harmath leads the Owls with eight victories and enters Saturday with a 7-3 record in No. 2 matches and a 1-0 mark in a No. 1 match.
 
Up Next
After the Rice match, the Bobcats will travel to Alabama and play in three matches during spring break. Texas State opens with a match at UAB on Monday before traveling to Alabama State on Wednesday. The Bobcats close the trip with a Sun Belt Conference match at South Alabama on Thursday.
