Match Statistics
San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team won its sixth straight home match and improved to 3-1 against Sun Belt Conference teams this season when the Bobcats defeated Arkansas State, 4-3, in a SBC match on Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The match began with Texas State capturing the team doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead after winning two doubles matches.
Eva Dench and
Katy Collins began the day winning the No. 3 doubles match by a score of 8-4 over Jess Heeps-Eriksen and Victoria Pisani.
Then,
Jessica Kahts and
Ana Laura Gutierrez posted an 8-4 victory over Tamara Slijepcevic and Janie Nowland in the No. 1 doubles contest.
Texas State clinched the victory by winning three singles matches. Dench posted the first victory despite playing on the No. 4 court for the first time in her career. She defeated Biljana Miloshevska in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to improve her overall record to 9-4 this spring.
Then, Collins remained undefeated in Sun Belt Conference matches when she won her third SBC match in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Chiara Stefanov in the No. 6 match.
Shannon Beckett clinched Texas State's eighth win of the season when she won the No. 5 match 6-3, 7-5 over Heeps-Eriksen.
Arkansas State came back to score its three points in the No. 1, No 2 and No. 3 matches. In the No. 1 match, Kahts lost the first set after dropping the the tiebreaker by a score of 8-6 against Slijepcevic before losing the second set, 6-1.
In the No. 2 match,
Monica Pieratt suffered a hard-fought loss in three sets against Nowland. Pieratt won the first set by a score of 6-2 before dropping the final two sets by scores of 7-5, and 6-4.
Gutierrez also fell in tough three-set match after winning the first set against Julie Gauguery by a score of 7-5. She dropped the final two sets, 6-2 and 6-3.
The victory improves Texas State's overall record to 8-6 and the Bobcats are 3-1 against Sun Belt Conference matches this season.
Following the win over Arkansas State, Texas State will play the first of five road matches this Saturday when the Bobcats travel to San Antonio for an intrastate battle against UTSA at noon. The Bobcats will also travel to SMU on April 4, play Middle Tennessee State in Arlington on April 5 before playing another league match versus UT Arlington on April 6.
Texas State will close out the road trip at Houston on April 9 before returning home to host Prairie View A&M and close out the regular season on April 12 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match begins at noon and will be the final home match for seniors
