Texas used five hits to score four runs combined in the first two innings. The Longhorns' Ben Johnson and Mark Payton both knocked singles and C.J. Hinojosa walked in the first. Collin Shaw cued up a double play ball in the next at bat, but it turned into an RBI fielder's choice when the throw was just late to first. Another single scored one more run in the first before the Bobcats ended the opportunity.
Â
In the second, UT's leadoff batter knocked a single and the top two batters in the lineup achieved consecutive walks to load the bases again. A sacrifice fly and a double after that scored two more runs for the Longhorns to go up 4-0 early.
Â
Texas added the team's fifth run on a solo homer by Ben Johnson in the fourth. It was the first home run by the Longhorns at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this season and Johnson's second of the year. His first was at Bobcat Ballpark against Texas State.
Â
Texas State will continue the team's road trip for a Sun Belt Conference series at Arkansas State this weekend with games at 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
