Natchitoches, La. – Jessica Kahts posted her seventh victory of the season and Shannon Beckett won her fifth match this year, but it wasn't enough as the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at Northwestern State on Sunday morning.
 
With threatening rain in the area, the teams began Sunday's match playing the six singles matches at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex. After Northwestern State won four matches, it was unnecessary to play the doubles matches.
 
The Lady Demons jumped out an early 2-0 lead. First, Katy Collins dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision in her No. 5 match against Aliona Ladutska.
 
Then, Ana Laura Gutierrez's three-match winning streak in No. 3 matches was halted when she suffered a 6-2, 6-3 setback against Natalya Krutova.
 
The Bobcats scored their first of two points in the match when Beckett won her No. 4 match against Kateryna Piatakova in three sets by the score of 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
 
Then, Eva Dench suffered her second loss of the season in No. 6 singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 setback against Daniela Simonova.
 
After Monica Pieratt suffered a 7-6 (2-0), 6-2 loss against Polina Konop in the No. 2 match, Kahts came back to earn Texas State's second victory.
 
She won the No. 1 match in dominant fashion when she beat Tatiana Larina by the score of 6-0, 6-1. The loss snaps Texas State's six-match winning streak and dropped their record to 6-3 this season.
 
The Bobcats continue their six-match road trip when they travel to Rice next Saturday before playing three matches in Alabama. Texas State travels to UAB on March 10, Alabama State on March 12 and South Alabama on March 14.
