SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team earned its 15
th victory on Thursday afternoon, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Sam Houston State Bearkats by a score of 8-3. The Bobcats are now 2-0 against the Bearkats this season after defeating them at the Texas Shootout back in February.
Â
The Bobcats used a six-run fifth inning to regain the lead over Sam Houston State, capped by a three-run long ball by
Bianca Prado.
Â
Timishia North got the bats going early for the Bobcats, as she was just inches away from a home run after hitting a line drive shot to center field that bounced off the top of the fence. Tough defense by the Bearkats, however, halted the Bobcats chances of getting a run in the bottom of the first.
Â
After a scoreless second inning,
Jordan Masek got things going in the bottom of the third for the Bobcats, singling to the shortstop with one out. North continued to be the igniting force for the Bobcat offense as she ripped a triple to center field, scoring Masek for the first run of the ball game.
Â
Sam Houston State answered in the top of the fourth, tacking on three runs to take over the lead.
Â
Texas State got a run back in the bottom of the fourth.
Courtney Harris started the inning with a double to right center and ultimately found her way home after a groundout by
Kortney Koroll and an illegal pitch by the Sam Houston pitching staff.
Â
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, sophomore
Kelli Baker got on base by way of the first walk of the contest. North then stepped up to the plate and hit the ball right at the pitcher, but a throwing error by the pitcher trying to throw Baker out at second gave the Bobcats runners on first and second with just one out.
Â
Kendall Wiley continued the bottom of the fifth with the second walk of the game, loading up the bases for Harris. Harris and Koroll promptly hit back-to-back singles to score three and regain the lead over Sam Houston State.
Â
Prado added three more in the fifth with the second home run of her career. She has now hit home runs in back-to-back pinch hit at bats.
Â
Baker extended her hitting streak to 10 games after hitting a bloop single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Â
Rayn House picked up her 12
th victory of the season after going the distance and striking out eight. Harris finished the game going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's and North went 2-for-4.
