Montgomery, Ala. – The Texas State women's tennis team snapped a three-match skid when the Bobcats defeated Alabama State, 6-1, on the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats opened the match capturing the team doubles point after winning all three doubles matches.
Jessica Kahts and
Ana Laura Gutierrez defeated Anantxia Wijingaarde and Nathalie Lorenco by the score of 8-3 on the No. 1 court.
On the No. 2 court,
Monica Pieratt and
Shannon Beckett also posted an 8-3 victory over Pauline Denis and Melissa Teifer.
Katy Collins and
Eva Dench also defeated Brankica Orlovic and Irina Cvijovic by a score of 8-4 on the No. 3 court.
Then, Texas State clinched their seventh victory of the season by winning five singles matches in straight sets. Kahts won the No. 1 match with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Wijingaarde. Pieratt defeated Denis by the score of 6-4, 6-1 on the No. 2 court and Gutierrez beat Teifer, by a score of 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 match.
In the No. 4 match, Beckett posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Orlovic and Dench won the No. 6 match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lorenco.
The final match was a three-set battle when Collins suffered a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 loss against Cvijovic.
Texas State will conclude its three-match road trip in Alabama on Thursday when the Bobcats return to Sun Belt Conference play at South Alabama at 1:00 p.m. in Mobile.
