Softball Splits Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team split on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a score of 13-0 in game one before falling in game two by a score of 2-0. Rayn House pitched a one-hitter in the first game while picking up her 11th victory of the season over the Islanders.

The Bobcats move to 14-10 on the year and finish the season with a 2-1 record against the Islanders this season.

In game one, Texas State got on the board early and often against the Islanders, scoring three in just the first inning alone. The Islanders starting pitcher, Constance Brandenburg, struggled to get the Bobcats out in the first inning as she hit a pair of runners home along with walking one home to account for all three of the Bobcat runs in the first.

Texas State added three more in the second, this time off of two hits including a three-run shot by Kendall Wiley for her fourth home run of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bobcats continued to add on to their lead with a pair of home runs by Kelli Baker and Bianca Prado. Baker's home run, a two-run shot to right field, was her second home run of the season. Prado's home run was a solo-shot, also to right field, that bounced off of the top of the outfield fence.

The Islander offense struggled against House, as she retired the first 13 batters that A&M-Corpus Christi brought up to the plate before allowing a one-out triple in the top of the fifth for the lone Islander hit of the game. House struck out three batters in the first game of the day.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returned in game two on a much better note than it left off in the first game, allowing just three Bobcat hits in the 2-0 shutout.

Texas State earned its first hit of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Delia Saucedo started the inning off with a single to right field. The Bobcats proceeded to get Saucedo all the way to third, but with two outs, Timishia North hit a pop-fly to the center fielder to end the inning.

The Bobcats then recorded hits in the fourth and the fifth innings, but never managed to get a base runner past second base.

The key play that made the difference in the ball game was in the top of the fourth inning when Islander first baseman J.J. Jackson hit a two-run blast over the right field fence for her third home run of the season. The Islanders finished the game with seven hits.

Kaylee Garner earned the loss in game two, falling to 1-4 on the year. House stepped in in the fifth inning for the Bobcats and recorded five more strikeouts to end the day with eight.

Baker extended her hitting streak to nine games after today, finishing the day going 3-for 6 with two runs and two RBI's. In game one, North went 1-for-1 with a pair of runs and two walks.

The Bobcats will take a day off before returning to the Bobcat Softball Stadium on Thursday to take on former Southland Conference foe in Sam Houston State. Thursday's game will be just a single game that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Live stats, live video and a live radio broadcast can be found at txstatebobcats.com.
