Tennis Beats ULM 4-3 For Sixth Straight Win

Monroe, La. – The Texas State women's tennis team won its sixth straight match and remained undefeated against Sun Belt Conference teams when the Bobcats edged UL Monroe, 4-3, at the Heard Stadium.
 
Texas State began the match capturing the doubles point after Monica Pieratt and Shannon Beckett defeated Angela Tejedor and Petra Horakova by the score of 8-6 in the No. 2 match. Katy Collins and Eva Dench also won the No. 3 match by forfeit. In the No. 1 match, ULM's Medy Blankvoort and Sophie Rufyikiri won an 8-3 decision over Jessica Kahts and Ana Laura Gutierrez.
 
After capturing the Bobcats earned the doubles point, they split the singles matches with each team winning three bouts. Texas State's three wins came when Gutierrez defeated Tejedor in the No. 3 match by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Then, Collins won the No. 5 match with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Marnelle Boshoff and Dench remained undefeated in No. 6 matches this season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Sthefani Rodriguez.
 
The victory improves Texas State's record to 6-2 overall this season and gives the Bobcats a 2-0 record against Sun Belt Conference teams this season. The Bobcats will continue their road trip in Louisiana on Sunday when they play a non-conference match at Northwestern State in Natchitoches
