SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team wrapped up the CenturyLink Classic with two, run-ruled sweeps against Southern Illinois and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In game one, the Bobcats rattled off seven in the third inning en route to the 9-0 victory. After taking a break for a game, Texas State stepped up and defeated the Islanders by a score of 13-0.

The Bobcats (3-1) got off to a solid start in game one as the Bobcats shut down the first six Saluki batters that came to the plate. Of those six, freshman pitcher Kaylee Garner struck out five of them swinging.

Texas State scored early against Southern Illinois, tacking on two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first inning proved to set the tone of the game against the Salukis as Southern Illinois committed its first of four errors to get the Bobcats on the base paths.

After Kelli Baker reached on an error to lead off the game, Timishia North hit a single to the pitcher, advancing Baker, who on the previous pitch stole second, to third base. Then, after a Jordan Masek pop up to the second baseman, Baker found her way home for the first Bobcat run of the game.

Southern Illinois bounced back after allowing two runs in the first inning, retiring all three Bobcat batters that came up to the plate.

Three errors in the bottom of the third proved to be the end all for the Salukis as Texas State capitalized and added seven runs to its already 2-0 lead.

In that inning, the Bobcats recorded four hits, including a triple by sophomore catcher Katie Doerre.

After the eventful third inning, the two squads recorded scoreless action until the end of the contest.

Garner earned the victory as she put in all five innings on the mound for the Bobcats. She finished the game allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Garner also did not give up any walks in the victory.

The bats came alive once again in the second game as the Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. After North walked to get on base, Masek ripped a triple down the right field line to hit in the first Bobcat run of the game. With Masek sitting on third, Kendall Wiley hit her first home run of the 2014 regular season to right center field to put the Bobcats up 3-0.

Texas State added to its lead in the bottom of the second as Masek stepped up once again, hitting a single down the right field line to score Baker and Katie Doerre.

With her first home run of the season, Courtney Harris helped pad the Bobcats lead in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot. The Bobcats proceeded to record seven runs on seven hits to jump out to a 12-0 lead.

Several Bobcats got to see action at the plate in the top of the fifth, as Alli Akina stepped in as a pinch hitter to hit a single through the right side. Also a pinch hitter for the Bobcats, Delia Saucedo came to the plate and moved Akina to second after a single to the left side. The Bobcats added that 13th and final run after Ashley Wright stepped up to the plate with bases loaded to reach on a fielder's choice that would score Akina.

Rayn House put in all five innings of work on the mound in the victory. She struck out seven while walking just one to improve to 2-0 in the young season.

Baker finished the second game going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI's and a stolen base. Masek and Wiley also had multi-hit games, each recording 2-for-3 efforts for the game.

Texas State returns to action on February 12 as it will play host to Houston Baptist. First pitch at the Bobcat Softball Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
