Tennis Travels To ULM and Northwestern State

San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team looks to win its sixth straight match when the Bobcats travel to Monroe, La., for a match against UL Monroe on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m.
 
The Bobcats enter the match with a 5-2 record after sweeping a pair of matches against Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin last weekend at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Texas State shut out Incarnate Word, 7-0, before beating SFA, 4-3.
 
Meanwhile, ULM enters Saturday's match with a 3-3 record after dropping its last two matches with a 4-1 loss against UTSA last Saturday and a 4-2 setback against McNeese State on Thursday afternoon in Monroe. The Warhawks opened the season with a 6-0 victory over Southern and a 6-1 triumph against Alcorn State. ULM also split its next two matches with a 5-2 loss at Nicholls State and a 4-3 victory at New Orleans.
 
Looking At Texas State
Jessica Kahts is Texas State's No. 1 player in singles and enters her match on Saturday with a 6-1 record this spring after posting straight set victories last weekend. Her only loss this season is against No. 12-ranked Kenna Kilgo.
 
Kahts also has teamed with Ana Laura Gutierrez as Texas State's No. 1 doubles tandem and they enter Saturday with a 4-2 record this spring.
 
Gutierrez has five victories in singles play this season after winning a pair of No. 3 matches last weekend. She began the season playing as Texas State's No. 4 player and posted a 3-1 record in those matches. Her only loss this season came against No. 18-ranked Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech.
 
Eva Dench and Katy Collins are 6-0 in doubles play while Monica Pieratt and Shannon Beckett are 4-2 as Texas State's No. 2 doubles team. They enter Saturday's match having won three straight matches. 
 
Beckett improved to 4-3 in singles play this spring after winning a pair of No. 4 matches against Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin. She posted a 2-3 mark in No. 3 matches before last weekend with two of her losses coming in three sets and another against No. 20-ranked Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech.
 
Scouting ULM
Medy Blankvoort  leads the Warhawks  with a 5-1 record in No. 1 singles matches this season after suffering a 6-1, 7-5 loss against Klaudia Gawlik of McNeese State.  Petra Horakova also has a 4-1 overall mark in No. 4 singles matches after she fell in three sets against McNeese State's Julia Kral.  Horakova is 3-1 in No. 3 matches after opening the season with a 1-0 mark in a No. 4 match.
 
Sophie Rufyikiri owns a 4-2 record in No. 2 singles matches. She has teamed with Blankvoort in No. 1 doubles and they own a 2-0 record after defeating Gawlik and Sara Castellano last Thursday. Rufyikiri and Angela Tejedor also have teamed up four times for doubles play and the duo has a 4-0 record in 2014 with a 3-0 mark in No. 2 doubles matches and a 1-0 record in No. 3 bouts.

After the ULM match, the Bobcats travel to Natchitoches, La., where they will play against Northwestern State on Sunday, March 2. Northwestern is currently 5-3 this season after defeating Prairie View A&M and UTSA last Saturday. They also have a win over  No. 52 SMU earlier this season.
 
Polina Konop owns a 2-1 record in No. 1 singles matches and is 3-4 overall this season in singles play. She and Tatiana Larina are 3-3 in doubles matches, including a 2-3 mark in No. 1 doubles.
 
Natalya Krutova and Kateryna Piatakova are 5-1 as the No. 2 doubles team. Krutova also owns a 5-1 record in singles matches with a 1-0 mark in No. 2 singles matches, 2-0 in No. 3 bouts and a 2-1 record in No. 4 bouts.
 
Aliona Ladutska leads the team with six victories as she enters this weekend with a 6-1 record, including 4-1 mark in No. 5 singles matches.
