Box Score

GULFPORT, Miss. – The Texas State softball team got off on the right foot on Friday afternoon, picking up a 2-0 victory over Memphis in game one of the Gulf Coast Classic in Gulfport, Miss. The Bobcats used a Tiger miscue along with back-to-back hits in the fifth inning to pick up the shutout victory.

The Bobcats improve to 12-5 overall and have four games remaining at the Gulf Coast Classic.

With one out and no one on base, freshman Lexi Fryar got things started for the Bobcats in the top of the fifth, hitting a ball to center field that ultimately resulted in a fielding error. Fryar then proceeded to reach second base on the throw, setting up Jordan Masek with a runner in scoring position. Masek promptly singled up the middle that scored Fryar for the first run of the contest.

Kelli Baker continued to add to the Bobcats' fifth, smacking a double to left field, scoring Masek for the final run of the game. Texas State got runners on first, second, and third, but back-to-back outs left the three runners stranded.

The Bobcats recorded their final three hits in the sixth and seventh innings, but struggled to get the runners all the way around the base paths.

Along with Baker and Masek, sophomore Kendall Wiley, junior Courtney Harris, and senior Coralee Ramirez all recorded hits for the Bobcats.
