Softball Falls To North Texas On Sunday, 3-1

Box Score

DENTON, Texas – On the final day of the Texas Shootout, the Texas State softball team fell for the second time this weekend to host school North Texas by a score of 3-1. All six teams at the tournament were seeded on Saturday evening at the conclusion of play and then played the appropriate seed on Sunday. Texas State was the No. 2 seed and host North Texas was the No. 1 seed.

North Texas (12-3) got on the board first in the contest, tacking on two runs in the bottom of the second inning by way of a two-run blast.

The Bobcats (11-5) recorded their first hit of the contest in the top of the third inning as Kelli Baker hit a single to center field with two outs. North Texas quickly worked its way out of the situation, striking out Timishia North, the next batter up to the plate.

After a scoreless Mean Green inning in the bottom of the third, Texas State stepped up in the top of the fourth and cut the North Texas lead in half with a one-run shot to left center field by Kendall Wiley. With one out, Kortney Koroll hit a single to second, giving the Bobcats another runner on the base paths. Texas State continued to add base runners as Coralee Ramirez found her way to third after an error by the third baseman, but could not tie up the contest as Koroll's pinch runner Alli Akina got thrown out at home during the same play.

North Texas proceeded to get the run back in the bottom of the fourth, which would prove to be the final run of the contest.

In the final three innings, Texas State was held to just one hit that occurred in the top of the seventh inning by Delia Saucedo.

Texas State outhit the Mean Green, 4-3, but the two-run shot in the bottom of the second by North Texas was enough to take over in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up.

Senior pitcher Rayn House picked up the loss, falling to 8-3 on the year. She struck out eight while allowing three runs and three hits.

The Bobcats will return to San Marcos for a single-game contest against Incarnate Word on Wednesday evening. First pitch at the Bobcat Softball Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at txstatebobcats.com and a live radio broadcast can be heard at 89.9 FM KTSW.
