San Marcos, Texas- Texas State women's tennis team will be competing for its fourth straight victory when they host Incarnate Word at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats are currently 3-2 this season after defeating UT-Pan American, 4-3, on Feb. 15, a 5-2 win over UTEP and a 7-0 sweep against UL Lafayette.
Incarnate Word is currently 0-4 overall, with losses against St. Mary's University, UTSA, Midwestern State and UTPA.
Looking at Texas State
Leading the Bobcats this year is senior
Jessica Kahts, whose overall singles record is 4-1 after her latest victory over UTPA's Didi Fatchikova. She also teams up with freshman
Ana Laura Gutierrez for a doubles record of 3-2. Kahts entered the season ranked No. 16 in the region.
Freshman
Eva Dench is also helping lead the Bobcats this season with a 3-1 singles record. Her last two victories were won in straight sets and her only loss came against UTPA's Reegan Greenwood in three sets. Dench has teamed up with
Katy Collins for an undefeated doubles record of 4-0.
Gutierrez is currently on a three-match winning streak in singles play and Collins is currently 1-1 in her previous two singles matches.
Shannon Beckett is 2-1 in both singles and doubles matches after sweeping both of her matches against UTEP. Beckett teams with
Monica Pieratt as the Bobcats' No. 2 doubles team with a 2-2 record this season.
Looking at Incarnate Word
Ivana Katavic is leading the Cardinals with a 6-6 singles record and four wins in doubles matches with Andi Botha, who is currently 2-9 and No. 3 in singles.
What's Next
Following the Incarnate Word match, the Bobcats will also take on Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, Feb. 23 at noon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Lady Jacks are currently 1-3 after suffering losses against nationally ranked SMU and Mississippi State and a 6-1 victory over Tyler Junior College.
