SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Texas State softball team wrapped up the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a 3-2 record, falling on Sunday afternoon in extra innings to South Dakota by a score of 7-4. One of the key victories during the tournament for the Bobcats came last night against No. 23 California when
Katie Doerre hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to lead Texas State to victory.

South Dakota (5-3) got on the board first in the contest against Texas State (7-3), scoring a run in the top of the second inning. The Coyotes once again struck in the top of the fourth, using a pair of singles to drive another base runner home.

The Bobcat bats remained relatively silent until the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore
Kendall Wiley woke the bats up with a single down the right field line with two outs. After a
Courtney Harris walk that sent Wiley to second,
Delia Saucedo stepped up to the plate to drive in the first Bobcat run of the game with a single up the middle.

Down 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, Texas State scored the tying run to force the game to go into extra innings. The Bobcats capitalized on a walk and a hit by pitch when
Bianca Prado stepped in as a pinch hitter and hit a single to left field to score
Danielle Warne who was standing on second.

The Coyotes answered in the top of the eighth, tacking on its third run of the ball game to regain the lead over the Bobcats.

Much like the seventh, the Bobcats answered the Coyotes call, tying the game once again to force an additional inning. As the last batter out in the seventh inning, catcher
Katie Doerre was placed on second, providing
Jordan Masek the opportunity to bunt her around to third. With one out,
Timishia North came up to the plate and singled Doerre home.

In the top of the ninth, the Coyotes went on a hitting rampage, scoring four off of three hits including a two-run shot for the sixth and seventh runs of the game.

The Bobcats added one in the bottom of the ninth, but it would prove to fall short after the big number South Dakota put up in the top of the inning.

Rayn House picked up her first loss of the season, falling to 5-1 on the year. She put in six innings of work, allowing five runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. Wiley led the Bobcats at the plate, recording two hits in four plate appearances.

Texas State returns to the Bobcat Softball Stadium on Wednesday evening as it will play host to I-35 rival UTSA. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Roadrunners.
