SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Texas State women's basketball team returns home Saturday as it is prepping to play host to Troy at 2 p.m. This marks the first meeting all-time between the two Sun Belt opponents.
With a 6-12 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, Troy currently is sitting in ninth place in the conference standings. The Trojans were picked to finished fourth in the preseason polls and earned two preseason all-conference selections in second-team pick Joanna Harden and third-team pick Ashley Beverly-Kelley.
The most recent victory for the Trojans came just earlier this week when Troy traveled to UT Arlington. The Trojans won by a score of 85-62, handing UT Arlington its sixth conference defeat. Harden lead the Trojans in the victory, scoring a floor-high 32 points behind shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Harden leads the Trojans overall in scoring and is fourth in the nation, averaging 24.8 points per game. She is also the sole leader of the most points scored in a game this season nationally with 52 against Alabama-Huntsville.
Troy is currently 28th in the nation in scoring offensive, tallying 79.8 points per game.
The Trojans are under the direction of second-year head coach Chanda Rigby. In her first season at Troy, she led the Trojans to a 118-96 victory over Fruman, marking the third most points in a game in school history.
Rigby has over 20 years of collective coaching experience, entering the 2013-14 season with a 421-273 record at the high school, two-year college, and four-year college levels.
Saturday's game will feature a special #NOLABound TXST Basketball Tailgate in conjunction with the Sun Belt Conference Office. The start time for the tailgate is scheduled for 1:30 and will go until tip of each of the two games.
