Box Score
San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State soccer team fell on Sunday afternoon to Stephen F. Austin by a score of 1-0. This marks the seventh straight 1-0 game between the two squads with SFA holding the 4-3 advantage in that span.
The Bobcats saw their record fall to 1-1 to start the 2013 season while SFA improves to 2-0.
The start of the first half saw little action between the two squads as almost six minutes passed before either team could produce a shot. The half would continue as only nine shots combined were fired off until a Bobcat foul at the 42:04 mark granted SFA the opportunity for a penalty kick. The Lady Jack's Chelsea Raymond took advantage of the penalty kick, giving SFA the 1-0 lead headed into intermission. It marked the second straight year that the game has been decided on a penalty kick after Kylie Louw of SFA converted on one late in the second half last year.
Defense on both sides of the ball was prominent in the second half as both teams held each other scoreless. The Bobcats managed to fire off three shots while SFA was able to fire off five.
Tori Hale led the Bobcats with three total shots including one of the two shots on goal Texas State had for the afternoon. Natalie Gardini posted 90 minutes of goal time with four saves.
Coach Conner announced the MVP's for this afternoon's contest.
