Four Bobcats Named to Southland Conference’s 2000s All-Decade Team

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After seeing five Bobcats recognized on the Southland Conference's 1990s All-Decade Baseball Team, four more Bobcats made the Southland Conference's 2000s All-Decade Team, announced Thursday.

Paul Goldschmidt, Kane Holbrooks, Matt Miller and Keith Prestridge were the Bobcats selected for the honor. Texas State was one of three teams to place four players on the squad, beating out Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi who each had one. Lamar led the way with 10 selections.

Goldschmidt may be one of the more recognizable Texas State players to make the team. In three seasons as a Bobcat, Goldschmidt worked his way into becoming an eighth round draft pick and is now manning first base for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While at Texas State, Goldschmidt earned the 2009 Southland Player of the Year award and took home Hitter of the Year honors in both 2008 and 2009.

Holbrooks, a Bobcat in 2008 and 2009, was named the Southland's Pitcher of the Year in 2009. He went 10-1 that year, finishing with a 3.29 earned run average with 57 strikeouts in 101.1 innings.

Miller, an outfielder, made an immediate impact at Texas State and in the Southland as he was recognized as the 2004 Newcomer of the Year. Prestridge achieved the same feat in 2009, finishing as the Newcomer of the Year from the designated hitter position.

The one consistent characteristic for all four Bobcats selected, as well as every Bobcat baseball player in the 2000s, is that they played for Head Coach Ty Harrington. During the decade, he was 337-252 for a winning percentage of .572 with a high mark of 41 wins to end the decade in 2009 with a first place finish in the Southland.
