Young, Titzman Advance to Final Championships

Austin, Texas – Texas State's senior duo of Timothy Young in men's track and Kelsey Titzman in women's field qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Final Championships to be held on the campus of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. June 5-8. Young will compete in the 110-meter hurdles while Titzman will throw in the shot put.

Young advanced to the quarterfinals in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, but the hurdles proved to be his event. He finished 10th in the first round with a time of 14.14 but improved a great deal to lower his time to 13.86 and finish 11th in the quarterfinals for the right to advance to the final championships. They take the top 12.

Titzman was equally impressive, actually winning her preliminary group. However, of all the west region competitors, Titzman finished eighth overall with a throw of 16.56. As the final championships accept the top 12, Titzman was in with plenty of room to spare.

Young will compete in Oregon at 5:20 p.m. June 6 while Titzman will go into action in the shot put at 1 p.m. June 8. If Young does well enough to advance in the semifinals, the 110-meter hurdle finals will also be held June 8 with competition starting at 3:16 p.m.
