Box Score

Ruston, La. – No. 4 Texas State softball defeated host No. 3 Louisiana Tech 6-1 to knock off the Lady Techsters in the elimination game. The win gave the Bobcats their first win in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

After a groundout to start the inning, Texas State recorded a walk and a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. Both runners advanced one base each on a wild pitch, followed by a Lady Techster fielding error that allowed both runners to score.

Anna Hernandez became the fourth Bobcat base runner of the day, when she singled through the left side to advance Courtney Harris to second base. Next, Coralee Ramirez loaded the bases for Texas State with a one-out walk. The walk led to Texas State's third and final run of the inning when Harris scored from third on a fielder's choice.

Louisiana Tech would not be held scoreless as its lone run of the game came on an RBI double by Erin Kipp to right center in the bottom of the first inning.

Both teams went tick for tack for the next three innings, with neither team able to add any runs to the scoreboard.

The fifth inning was a little like the first inning for Texas State, as the Bobcats were able to tally a trio of runs. The first-two runs came on a double by Haley Lemons to left center. Five batters later, pinch hitter Katie Doerre reached base on a fielding error by the Lady Techster shortstop which scored Lemons on the play for the sixth run of the game.

Four different Bobcats recorded a hit in the game, while Lemons and Harris both had a pair of RBIs. Amanda Krueger was the top hitter for LA Tech, as she went 2-for-3 from the plate with one run scored.

Ashley Wright (9-14) earned the win in the circle today with four strikeouts. Michelle Jones (13-9) was handed the loss today after 5.0 innings pitched. Jones fanned two batters during her stint in the circle.

Texas State will continue play in the WAC Tournament this afternoon with a game against UT Arlington at 4:30 p.m. If the Bobcats beat the Lady Mavericks, they will play the loser of No.1 San Jose State and No. 2 New Mexico State at 7 p.m.
